The 2018 Annual Meeting of the State Retirees Association will be held on April 25th at Seawell’s Banquet Facility, 1125 Rosewood Drive, Columbia. Registration will begin at 9:00 AM and is $10 per person which includes lunch and tips.
Our business meeting will begin at 10:00 AM and will be followed by presentations from staff of the Public Employee Benefit Authority. They will cover retirement, health care, and Deferred Compensation and will also be available to answer individual questions and provide information.
Michael Hitchcock, Executive Director of the Investment Commission, will update us on the recently adopted investment plan and why it was chosen as opposed to simply investing in index funds and will bring us up to date on investment earnings Hopefully he will have some good news for us.
Our keynote speaker this year will be the Honorable Senator Vincent Sheheen. Senator Sheheen has been a key Senator for the past several years as the General Assembly worked to strengthen the Retirement System and his leadership last year was crucial in passing the compromise legislation that put the Retirement System on the path to financial recovery. Recognizing his leadership skills and capacity for hard work, Senator Sheheen has been appointed Chairman of the Senate Finance Standing Subcommittee on Retirement and Co-chair of the Joint Committee on Retirement Systems Review. We look forward to his remarks and updates on the several bills that have been introduced this year and how they may affect us.
Finally, we plan to share with you the latest information that we will have about the issues that affect South Carolina’s retired public employees.
